In the contemporary world, there is a lot of evidence which says that people who are socially more connected are likely to be happier and hence healthier both physically and mentally. It was Ayurveda which first talked about the relationship between the Mind and the Body.

As per Ayurvedic philosophy, it is very important to keep the mind balanced and calm during the treatment regimen. A positive mind helps the physical body to be more receptive to the treatment.

PANCHAKARMA

Panchakarma Treatments are the primary therapeutic, purification, detoxification and rejuvenation treatments in Ayurveda. It is a therapy for achieving balance in body, mind and consciousness.

On a wellness perspective, Panchakarma Treatments are done at any time as an aid to keep the body immunity and metabolism strong and to prevent toxins accumulating in the body. It enhances and restores the essential balance of body and mind.

Panchakarma in Ayurveda refers to five therapies (Karmas) designed mainly for cleansing the body of toxins. It involves daily massages and oil baths, herbal enemas, nasal administrations. It is a very pleasurable experience. Ayurveda recommends Panchakarma as a seasonal treatment for maintaining mental and physical hygiene and balance.

Internal medication can be prescribed along with Panhakarma treatments for the total management of diseases and other wellness prescriptions. The internal medication can be in seven dosage forms; namely, Gulika(Tablets),Choorna(Powder),Kashaya (Herbal extract),Arista and Asava (Fermented products),Thaila(Medicated oil),Grita(Medicated ghee) and Leha (Chewing).

Like all medical procedures, Panchakarma Therapy always must begin with an initial consultation by a qualified Ayurvedic Physician who can determine the individual’s prakriti (constitutional type), the nature of the health problem (if any), and the appropriate degree of intensity of the prescribed therapies.

ABHYANGAM

Abyangam is the general body massage in Ayurveda using medicated oils on a daily basis as a part of lifestyle to ease pain and reduce fluid accumulation, aiding the removal of toxic accumulation.

This treatment is done normally for 45 to 60 minutes daily for 07 to 21 days. It is a very effective rejuvenation therapy which improves circulation, cellular regeneration, immuno-modulation and sound sleep. It is a very effective treatment in rheumatic complaints, stiffness of joints, spondylosis, spondylitis, back pain, sports injuries, frozen shoulders, improves flexibility, improves softness and firmness of the skin, etc

PIZHICHIL

Pizhichil is a therapeutic process in which lukewarm medicated oil is poured all over the body in a uniform rhythmic way continuously in specific direction along with simultaneous gentle massages for 60 to 90 minutes.

It helps to relieve pain, nourish the nerves and muscles, reduce stress, and induce peace of mind and relaxation. Duration of treatment is daily for 07 to 21 days. This treatment is effective for rheumatic diseases like arthritis, paralysis, weakness of muscular and nervous systems and sexual weakness, stroke.

NJAVARA KIZHI

After applying the medicated oil over the whole body or any specific part, the medicinal rice (Njavarayari) and the root of Sida retusa extract are processed with milk and to be made in the form of paste and apply over the whole body or any specific part along with massage.

This procedure is done by trained therapists for about 45 to 60 minutes. Duration of the treatment is daily for 07 to 14 days.

This treatment renders strengths to nerves and muscles and purifies blood and is beneficial for all types of rheumatism, joint pain, emaciation of limbs, high blood pressure, cholesterol, paralysis,  sciatica, and certain kinds of skin diseases and  it improves  general body weakness, the skin colour and complexion.

SIRO DHARA

“Sirodhara” means continuous flow (dhara) on the head (sira). Just as the root forms the base of a plant so also in Ayurveda the head is considered the root of the body. Therefore, Sirodhara is of utmost importance in ayurvedic treatment.

Medicated oil, medicated butter milk, herbal extract is allowed to flow as a continuous stream over the upper part of the forehead along with gentle massage over the scalp thus stimulating the pineal gland in the brain which produces serotonin and melatonin. These hormones play an important role in each person’s emotional balance.

The treatment may last for 30-45 minutes. The recommended course: daily for 07 to 21 days.

It is highly effective for diseases of the nervous system and for emotional problems such as chronic depression, insomnia, loss of memory and anxiety (panic) attacks.

It is also recommended for diseases of the head and neck, insomnia, impaired memory, spondylitis, paraplegia, fatigue as well as ear, nose and throat problems, and is especially useful for mental relaxation.

This treatment also stimulates nerves, reduces stiffness and is proven to be effective for rheumatoid arthritis and other auto immune diseases.

SIRO VASTHI  

Medicated lukewarm herbal oil is poured into a cap fitted on the head and kept for 15 to 60 minutes per day according to the patient’s conditions.

Medicated lukewarm oil is allowed to retain over the head for about an hour within a leather cap fitted around the head. This treatment is very effective in facial paralysis, cataract, deafness, earache, chronic headache, insomnia, psychosomatic stress and other diseases that afflict the cranial nerves. It stimulates the nervous system and promotes mental concentration.

KATI VASTHI

In this process specially prepared warm medicated oil is kept over the lower back, upper back or thorax with a tank prepared with herbal powder paste. It is beneficial in localized and radiating pain of different origin.

This treatment lasts for 30-45 minutes. Specifically for low back pain, lumbago and degenerative vertebral diseases, disc prolapse etc.

ELA KIZHI

It is a type of swedana (sudation) treatment in which the whole body or any specific part by the application of medicinal leaves puddings (medicinal leaves are cut into small pieces and processed in the medicated oils) externally in the form of boluses tied up in muslin bag, dipping it in warm medicated oils.

This is done for 45 minutes daily for a period of 07 to 14 days. Fine powder of medicinal herbs is also used. This treatment is effective in chronic back pain and rheumatic complaints, arthritis, paralysis, pain and swelling in the joints and emaciation of limbs. It stimulates and strengthens the nervous and muscular systems, increases the circulation and metabolic rate, reduces stiffness and pain, improves the skin tone.

NASYAM

Nasyam is the treatment of nasal application of herbal oil or juices.

Nasyam helps to evacuate accumulated elements in the nasal sinuses .It stimulates neruro hormonal centres, enhances the function of eyes, nose, ears, induces sound sleep and strengthens the neck and shoulder. It is very effective in the treatment of Sinusitis, Nasal congestion, Dental Problem, Ear and Eye Disease, Facial paralysis, Migraine and cervical degeneration.

KARNAPOORANAM

Application of medicated oil in the ear cannel is effective in the infective pathologies of the ear. It improves the sound perception with clarity.

The duration of the treatments may vary between 60 -90 minutes according to the nature of the treatment.

The main external therapies which may include abhyanga (massage with medicated oil), Ela kizhi (leaf bolus massage), Podi kizhi (powder bolus massage), Pizhichil (oil bath), Njavara kizhi (rice bolus massage)

THALAM

It is a therapeutic procedure done with herbal paste in almost all ayurvedic treatments. The herbal power mixed with water/fresh juice of medicinal leaves/medicated oil and apply over the middle of bregma and lamda on the head.

It has direct positive effects on the brain and it protects the brain from over heat and pressure variations. It promotes sound sleep and cooling effects.

LEPAM

In this treatment, chosen herbs are made into a paste and applied externally for a predefined time period to the faulty parts of the body.  It reduces pain, swelling, redness and local temperature.

UDVARTAM

This incorporates a massage focused on releasing toxins, followed by application of a purifying herbal compound that gets through the skin into the blood-stream. Afterwards toxins are ‘sweated out’ through steam/sweat therapy and then a flower or milk lotion is applied to clean and nourish the body.

Excellent for weight reduction. Also for cellulite, itching/dryness and toning the skin/muscle after child birth/weight loss.

MUKHALEPAM

This is an intensive head, neck and face treatment  which opens congested pores and reestablishes moisture to tissues while adding a mending measurement to the facial skin.

This holistic facial detoxifies, cleanses and nourishes the system to enhance beauty from within. Makes the face glow by preventing wrinkles and improving skin tone.

NAVARAKIZHI

A rejuvenating massage utilizing the much-discussed restorative rice “njavara”, cooked with a milk decoction of therapeutic herbs. An embellishment of this massage is the softening of the skin and the fortifying of the muscles.

PATRAPODALA SWEDANAM

In this treatment, particular natural leaves and herbal powders are bound into a package and soaked in warm medicinal oils and administered specifically to various focal points on the body. This treatment is helpful to treat body pains, stiff joints, spinal ache, Sciatica and comparative sicknesses.

KSHEERADHARA

A herbal milk is poured over the temple or over the entire body. The moisturizing particles calm nervousness and stress while leaving your skin with a sound gleam. This treatment is perfect for individuals experiencing migraines, sleep deprivation and mental pressure.

TANUSREE

A sensuous massage which begins with head massage and hair pack, mukha lepam, herbal scrub, massage with regular natural fruit puree and herbal shower giving anti-oxidants and vitamins to condition the skin.

POTALI MASSAGE

This massage is done with special bags which contain either medicinal herbs or other nutritious items. The bags are heated in warm oil for few minutes and then are used for massaging the body. It is a great massage to relieve pain, reduce physical and mental stress, and nourish and rejuvenate the body.
