Rapid pace of life, stress in the workplace, and overload of family responsibilities can adverse impact on your health by predisposing you to silent killers such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and cancers.
Health screening plays a vital role to identify diseases and addresses potential health risks before it is too late as some disease do not produce early warning signs.
With early detection and with doctor’s medical guidance, disease and health risks can be treated and prevented. Make your health a priority with regular health screening check-ups.
WOMEN’S HEALTH
Health checks, including screening for cervical cancer, are important for women in their 20’s and 30’s. Lifestyle issues such as weight management and pre-conception should also be addressed.
Breast cancer rate increases in women in their 40’s and annual screening is recommended. Diabetes and hypertensionare of concern, as well as pre- menopausal, aging and hormonal issues.
The risk of heart disease, colorectal cancer and osteoporosis increases. Screen for heart disease. Colonoscopy, bone density assessment and tests for age-related eye disease are recommended.

MEN’S HEALTH
Health screening is advised, especially if you have a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Lifestyle concerns include prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
Screen for major illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes and lung cancer. Note that many diseases have been shown to be linked to lack of exercise, poor diet and weight gain.
The risk of colorectal and prostate cancer, and eye diseases like cataract, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration increases. Speak to your doctor on issues such as erectile dysfunction.
Continue with annual check-ups and keep an active lifestyle to reduce the likelihood of dementia and depression. Smokers should have an ultrasound of the abdominal aorta. Ask about vaccinations for influenza, shingles and pneumococcal disease.

Preparation for your health screening
-
Set aside half a day minimally for your tests (exact duration depends on the package selected).
-
Fast from food and drinks at least 8 hours prior to your appointment. Drinking of plain water is allowed during fasting.
-
Diabetic medication, like insulin, should not be taken on the morning of your screening appointment. Regular high blood pressure and heart medication can be continued.
-
For stool analysis, a specimen bottle will be provided on the day of the test. Alternatively, you may collect the specimen bottle from our clinic prior to the appointment and collect your stools the night before.
-
For ladies – Pap smear, urine and stool tests should be done five days after the last day of menstruation.
If you are menstruating on the day of your appointment, please inform the nurses on arrival. You will not be able to do your urine, stool and Pap smear tests because the presence of blood in these tests would produce inaccurate results. The Pap smear test can be arranged to be done on the day of your review.
-
Before undergoing a pelvic ultrasound, you will be required to drink several glasses of water. Please avoid urinating for about one hour prior to the examination time. When the bladder is full, it forms a convenient path, known as the acoustic window, for the ultrasonic waves.
-
Do not wear any deodorant, perfume, powder or cream under your arms or chest area as it may interfere with the quality of the mammogram.
-
If you are taking the treadmill test, bring along an additional change of clothes and appropriate footwear. Medications such as beta-blockers (e.g. propranolol or atenolol) should preferably be stopped three days before the test date.
-
Bring along any past medical records (doctor’s memo/X-ray films/ECG/medical report) or medications, if any.
-
Bring along your Identity Card/Passport for registration and verification purposes.
-
